In Response to the Protests for George Floyd and Racial Justice
This moment feels like fire. A fire which has been smoldering for far too long. Of course, this fire must at some point take hold. On the streets, in communities and families, in the systems we participate in, in our own hearts.
No justice, no peace is the chant being heard throughout the country in large and small cities. It is the only response to such horrific inhumanity. Not only is this the necessary response to the murder of an innocent man, and countless before him, but it must be our response to the violent and unjust systems of power and oppression which are at the root of the founding of this country. We are each responsible for the humanity of our society. How can there be peace in our hearts until the system itself says Black lives matter?
I want to practice so I can really feel what is happening and utilize my practice as a way to uncover, understand, and expand. I want to teach so we can build resilience toward the process of awakening. I want our community to support each other in building a steady, engaged, creative, compassionate awareness, with a foundation in non-violence and deep listening. I wish to honor this moment, not to squander it. These are my intentions. It is in this spirit that I invite you to join in practice.
